When taken as prescribed, opioids are a very effective pain reliever. But for some people, using opioids may be the trigger that leads to a lifelong addiction.Attend this session to learn about how opioids impact the body, prevention initiatives, your patient rights, treatment alternatives and questions to ask your provider
prior to leaving with a prescription.
Some questions you may want to ask include:
• When is it appropriate to see my physical therapist for pain?
• What should I expect when seeing a physical therapist for pain?
• Is there anything else I can do to manage my pain without medications?
• Why won't I need an MRI or x-ray to help address my pain?

Karen Monarski, PT joined our practice in April 2019. She is a 1989 graduate of Marquette University College of Health Sciences Program in Physical Therapy. Karen’s professional focus is on the treatment of general orthopedic conditions in all age groups, with special interest in treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction of the pelvis in women and men; and biomechanical dysfunction related to the effects of pregnancy, and cancer treatment. She uses a balance of passive treatments, active movement interventions, and education to help her patients manage pain, restore safe movement patterns, and learn to manage their condition independently. She finds joy in watching her patients learn safe movement patters that reduce risk of re-injury and future problems.
Karen is a native of Southeastern Wisconsin who settled in Wausau 20 years ago after living and working throughout the United States. As an avid cyclist, hiker, kayaker, and cross country skier, she found Wausau to be a good balance of an urban center with easily accessible outdoor activities. Wausau is also now a great place to be raising her family, which includes two teens who keep her on the move with their involvement in sports, performing arts, and community activities.
Roberts Physical Therapy is a private outpatient physical therapy practice with 4 clinics in Central WI and two sister clinics in La Crosse and Acadia. Dr. Brett Roberts opened the first clinic in Wisconsin Rapids almost 13 years ago, and recently expanded to Marathon County in April of 2019. The doctors of physical therapy at Roberts Physical Therapy strive to use the most effective treatment techniques while educating patients on the cause, treatment, and prevention of problems. Taking time to educate our patients sets us apart from other forms of rehabilitation and treatment. At Roberts Physical Therapy, we firmly believe that an informed patient, who understands the how and why of their injury, will have a faster and more permanent recovery than a patient who is “left in the dark”. Let us help you, "Get Moving, Keep Moving, and Enjoy Life."
